There are over 100 job and career related proprietary schools in New Hampshire, training upwards of 29,000 students a year.
The majority of schools are licensed by the State and pay their fees to the State for this license.
For years, our schools had little or no voice in the rules and regulations that govern our operations.
Due to the efforts of several of our members, and in conjunction with Lynn West at the NH Postsecondary Commission,
we are starting to make a difference:
We were able to get legislation passed that adds one member of our job and career related proprietary schools to the New Hampshire Postsecondary Education Commission. This is a major accomplishment.
Governor Lynch has appointed Steve Appleby, President of New Horizons Computer Learning Center - Nashua, to this new position.
We testified at legislative sessions to block House Bills 1211 and 1212, which were redundant to existing PEC rules and state laws. If passed, these bills would have cost each school time and man hours with additional reporting with our annual PEC filing.
These accomplishments provide greater visibility to the vital role our schools play in the post secondary education arena. However, to take full advantage of this opportunity, we need our schools to get organized to provide collective power with which to advocate for our interests and the work we do for our students every day.
